Movie Trailers 2

"Cute... pretty funny."

submission: Movie Trailers 2
date: May 22, 2007

Not bad at all... at least it was written nicely. Work on the look, though.

Also, a little half second of "TV static" or "black screen" between skits would've been a good breaker between skits, to let Joe Newgrounds when they stop and start. Something to think about. :-)

Author's Response:

Thx, dude.

Cute. Simple. To the Point. Not an epic flash, but it does the job nicely. I hope she enjoyed it.

The Last Stand.

"Huge monster review... for a HUGE monster game!"

submission: The Last Stand.
date: May 4, 2007

Okay, I admit I'm not a zombie/buckets-o'-blood-pourin '-outta-everybody's head fan. Still, this game is arguably the greatest thing that's EVER hit Newgrounds.

PLUSES:

Graphics do the job very nicely. I was particularly impressed with the sunrise when the night was over.

Variety of zombie characters to blast: skinnies, fatties, and the cops and soldiers as well.

On that tack, the challenges and strategy of taking each zombie down was pretty good, too.

The sound fx are off the hook: gun shots, even the crickets in the night.

Good variety of weaponry for what we've got. It's pretty recreational, being able to pick and choose and seeing what they all do, and the challenges of reloading.

All under 4.4 MB! Impressive!

MINUSES:

Slowdown on weaker, older computers, but that's a fact of life.

A tad too easy once you get the UMP 45... autofire will do that.

Some cool, appreciable features are a bit TOO easy to miss... the diary (with some actual PLOT in it) in the workshop/gun rack was easily overlooked, and I didn't catch it until after a handful of plays. Click on it from day to day next time you play, folks!

Yes, yes, I realize this is zombie blasting, not The Care Bears Movie, but I think it's a bit of a shame I can't in good conscience show this to the younger set without giving them nightmares.

SEQUEL SUGGESTIONS:

More choice of weaponry. Maybe something explosive like grenades or firey like Molotov cocktails, or even improvised like pipe bombs, nail guns, or other power tools. Maybe something with a weed-killer sprayer full of gasoline to soak the zombies, and throw a firebomb, or even just a match to start the bonfire. (The hitch there... don't let the flames get too close to the barrier.)

Britain was a good locale, but maybe we could put The Last Stand 2 in Australia or America (weapon searching should be MUCH easier there ;-P).

Maybe also have more than the backwoods as your place to stand. How about holing up in a desert, or on the beach, the city, or in true Dawn of the Dead fashion... the mall!

In this one, you can dedicate X hours for barrier repair, Y hours for searching for weapons, Z hours for finding other survivors... and NONE for sleep?! I don't think I'd last 2 or 3 days like that, let alone 20. That'd be good for realism next time, with your aim faltering in game play if you don't stay on top of it.

Celebrity zombies. Using individual characters like the priest, the biker dude, escaped prisoners, the reporter and all was a nice touch. Maybe put up some other characters that we'd LOVE to blast to Kingdom Come! *COUGH cough coughBritneycough coughTeletubbiescough coughOsamacough coughDonaldTrumpcough.*

I'll probably think up more by the time I hit Submit, but those are my suggestions. As it stands, though... you did a frackin' spectacular job. Bravo, congratulations, and send more please.

Space's Fate

"Nice concept, but needs more."

submission: Space's Fate

Okay, first the good news... your music is absolutely lovely, and I like the teeny-tiny story. Cute, charming, and it's got ice cream in China.

BUT:

All right, the look's kinda ecch. I've seen worse, though.

But what really bugged me is the lack of rhyme or reason behind it. Why a wormhole? Where did it come from? Why between China and wherever that carrot is? Why did the banana get the cone? Is there any way for that poor carrot to get it back? Or at least get another one like it? Will those two ever meet?

This thing is begging for much more. My advice: expand your musical piece a bit, figure out a story to go with it, and take it the full measure. Don't stop with just "Fin," make it a whole fish!

Phoenix Wrong Triple Take

"Perhaps the best PW in the whole collection!"

date: May 2, 2007

I'd seen and enjoyed much of the Phoenix Wrong series, but this one FINALLY summoned me to actually review one.

Getting the screen down to its proper viewing size was a wise move. And you got and held my attention with all those funny sound bites in synch with the characters. Starting with Weird Al was starting strong.

Adding the scene selection menu at the start and the finish was a very good idea.

You nearly got busted down to 4 our of 5 with "Go Planet!" at the end, though... that was just. Plain. WRONG. X-P

In short, this PW is one of the best in the genre, if not THE best. Case closed.

Primal War 12

"Ya hooked me"

submission: Primal War 12

At first I wasn't going to look at this since (1) I'm more of a modern times/car 'n guns type fiction person, and (2) I hate not being in with something on episode 1. But I gave #12 a look anyway...

... and you got good artwork, nice animation, great editing, and well put-together music and SFX.

Oh, and on top of that... PLOT.

You've won the uphill battle for my attention. Congratulations.

Now if you'll excuse me, I gotta catch up on the other 11.

Great comedic timing, in synch with the music, very nicely drawn... and it's AL. And a way-overlooked tune, too.

If this isn't enshrined next to Geeks In Love, this site's a tax deductible loss.

Bunneh FuFu

"MUCH better than a whomp on the head ;-P"

submission: Bunneh FuFu
date: April 17, 2007

Plus: Great graphics and look! I'da had no clue this was your first entry ever.

-- Great quick story line... and a fiendish plot twist.

-- A hoot!

Minus: What? No sing-along with the original song?

All the same, I hope the Good Fairy gives you something special for this one. :-)

Author's Response:

At first when I did this Flash I wanted the my view to guess that it was the Bunny Fufu story. that is why I didn't have the song in there. But now that I think about it I probably could have put it on the end for people who don't know the song or want to read it.
Thank you for the comments and nice rating!

Quick, funny, to the point, simple yet not harsh on the eyes. And the needle scratch segue at the end... that was perfect. Marvelous short!

Love to see you do a full compleat version of Polka Power! Or any other Weird Al Polka you darn please. :-D

Toon Attack

"Not bad... pretty good"

submission: Toon Attack
date: March 23, 2007

Well, I thought this was gonna be another thing to redirect to YouTube, but it was pretty nice, particularly the ending.

4 suggestions, though:

(1) More characters and more interaction would've been great.

(2) Nice little music track, but it didn't fit the vid, IMHO. Something that follows the actions "classic Mickey Mouse" style probably would've worked better.

(3) Sound FX. This thing's begging and pleading for sound FX!

(3) "Weird Al" Yankovic called. He wants his hairstyle back. ;-P
